Tarantino has designed a Barbie doll and Barbie-inspired jewelry and famously gave Hello Kitty pink hair in 2002 (an image she still uses in her jewelry designs), and she's earned a cult following with her bright, shiny creations. PROVIDENCE, R.I. - State police say they arrested a man early Tuesday whose blood alcohol level was 0.491 percent — the highest ever recorded in Rhode Island for someone who wasn't dead.Stanley Kobierowski was taken to a hospital, put in the detoxification unit and sedated, said Maj. Steven O'Donnell. He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, and he was released after promising to appear Friday at a court hearing."The person's lucky they survived," O'Donnell said. "There's no doubt he would have gotten killed or killed someone if he had continued on the route he was taking."

A phone listing for Kobierowski could not be found, and he did not have a lawyer in court Tuesday. Kobierowski, 34, of North Providence, was arrested after he drove into a highway message board on Interstate 95 in Providence, O'Donnell said.
After police arrived, Kobierowski had trouble getting out of the car, then grabbed it and refused to move, forcing troopers to carry him to the breakdown lane before taking him back to their barracks, O'Donnell said.

A breath test showed blood alcohol readings of 0.489 percent, followed by 0.491, O'Donnell said, the highest readings state officials could remember for someone who didn't end up dead.The legal limit in Rhode Island is 0.08. A level of 0.30 is classified as stupor, 0.4 is comatose and 0.5 is considered fatal, according to the health department.

He's very lucky he didn't hurt anyone.. just his life, oh and the message board. Illa J, the younger brother of the late, revered producer J Dilla, has informed AllHipHop.com that his pending debut on Delicious Vinyl will feature unreleased tracks from his older sibling. The 21-year-old Illa J feels he is ready to not only show his talents as an artist, but will also illuminate the spiritual bond he still holds with his departed brother.

“Dilla was twelve years older than me,” Illa J explained to AllHipHop.com. “So back in the day in Detroit I was just a little kid, sitting on the stairs in our house, watching him make those first beats for Slum Village. So I always felt my brother’s tracks and had an instinct for what I wanted to do over them.”

J Dilla passed away in February 2006 due to complications from lupus, leaving behind an extraordinary collection of unused beats. The unreleased tracks date from Dilla’s time working on Pharcyde’s sophomore LP Labcabincalifornia in 1995 through 1998. Delicious Vinyl founder Michael Ross elaborated on how the pieces came into Illa J’s possession.

“From ’95 through ’98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always,” Ross detailed. “So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, only they never got used. When I finally met Illa J last year, I gave him a CD containing those unreleased beats.”

The timing worked in Illa’s favor, as the fledgling musician had just relocated to Los Angeles and built his own studio. With his older brother’s lost recordings, he began crafting his own unique sound with Dilla’s recording equipment. Through this process, Illa J feels his brother has imparted more life lessons to him from beyond the grave.

“One of the things I learned from my brother is that you don’t get that much time, so make the most of it,” Illa Jay reflected. “That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate my life to doing what I love: music. To work with Mike and Delicious Vinyl, that label that released those hits my brother made with The Pharcyde [‘Runnin’,’ ‘Drop‘] is really special.” Ross wholeheartedly agrees, and further elaborates on a spiritual, higher purpose he sees in the musical legacy of Jay Dee and Illa J’s potential as a new artist.

“Illa J can write, sing, play and rap. Not just a little bit of each-he’s really the total package, Ross stated excitedly. “And anyone who loves Jay Dee’s music is going to flip out when they hear what his younger brother’s been laying down. For over a decade these beats have been waiting in the vault for this moment. It’s like Jay Dee made these tracks with an extrasensory purpose, so that Illa J could make this album. There is no question that is exactly what they were meant for. These beats belong to Illa J, they’re his birthright, and I really believe Jay Dee would be proud of what his brother is doing.”

A set release date has not been confirmed at press time.

Lil Wayne has declared it for the last two years, and if you ask his fans and many groupies they'll agree, but the man which he idolizes also has dibs on the title even though some say that Nas is clearly the superior emcee. So after all of the heated debates, Vibe magazine has decided to do something about the on going argument for the title of best rapper alive.

This tournament will poll 64 of the industries "best" rappers/emcees from past and present to see who comes out as the top dog. Some of the artist that will be featured in this tournament pool will be, Jay-Z. Nas, Lil Wayne, Joe Budden, Bow Wow, Trina, Lil Boosie, Soldier Boy,Bun B, Ludacris, and many more.

"The first round of voting begins July 21. Each round lasts one week followed by our version of The Final Four." To make the process even more interactive, fans have the opportunity to print out the tournament pool and fill it out with their predictions of who will come out as the winner of best rapper alive.

The tournament will officially begin in six day's with the voting process lasting a week at a time per round.

As the new Wii Fit made the rounds on morning talk shows this week, a U.K. company was working on a buzzy tidbit of its own: a stripping game for the popular console.

Peekaboo, a company that specializes in temporary at-home stripper polls, including one endorsed by Carmen Electra, announced this week that it's developing a strip aerobics game for the Wii.

"Peekaboo is pleased to confirm that it is in talks to develop a game for the Nintendo Wii that meets mainstream demand for the fun and fitness benefits of pole dancing," the company said in an e-mailed statement. "Peekaboo and its partners are focused on using Wii-friendly hardware to make aerobic pole dancing instantly accessible just as 'Guitar Hero' did for rock'n'roll."

Electra will not be involved in the game, according to the company.

"It would be natural for the platform. … That's the Wii's strength," said Rob Enderle, a Silicon Valley analyst. "If you wanted to create a stripper poll game, this would be the system you'd target."

Cult British/Sri Lankan star M.I.A. has announced her retirement - at the age of 30.
After cancelling her European tour last week (beg09Jun08) due to exhaustion, the Galang hitmaker took to the stage at the Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival on Friday (13Jun08) and told fans it was her final show.
Three times during her set at the Tennessee festival, M.I.A. said "This is my last show," adding at one point, "... and I'm glad that I'm spending it with all my hippies!"
Midway through her high-energy set, fans climbed over barriers at the front of the audience to join M.I.A. onstage, where they stayed for much of the rest of her set.
After the devotees were kicked off, M.I.A. closed her gig with hit Paper Planes and ended her performance by stating, "Thanks for coming to my last gig."
M.I.A., real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, has been a cult live act since 2004 when her first releases turned her into a controversial star.

Tha Carter III is easily the best selling first week of the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures. Even Kanye West's Graduation didn't eclipse that mark in its first week last year (though it was only about 50,000 copies short).

A prolific rapper who's been ubiquitous on the mixtape scene and on other acts' records, Lil Wayne is generally regarded as one of rap's most gifted performers — but he's never had a multiplatinum album. His last two albums, Tha Carter and Tha Carter II, sold 1.1 million and 1.4 million copies, respectively. Tha Carter III was anticipated as the CD that would send the New Orleans rapper into superstardom.

Already, he's had a No. 1 smash for several weeks — the sexually explicit Lollipop— and has been featured on numerous hits over the past year, including the recent remix to Usher's Love in This Club.

You can pretty much count on a new 3G iPhone come Monday. But redesigned MacBooks? Don't bet on it. Here's my take on what Steve Jobs will announce during his much-anticipated keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

New iPhone
I'm almost certain that we'll feast our eyes on a new iPhone on Monday-one with access to speedy 3G networks along with build-in GPS, both features that are sorely missing in the original iPhone. Heck, after all the fevered speculation, Jobs could find himself dodging tomatoes if he doesn't unveil a new iPhone.

Beyond that, however, the picture gets fuzzier. Will the new iPhone be thicker than the original, or thinner? Will the brushed-metal backing be replaced with a glossy black (or white) finish? There seems to be consensus on the new, glossy backing (which might scratch more easily than the old brushed-metal finish), but that's about it.

And there's more: rumors that AT&T might subsidize new iPhones to the tune of $200, along with a just-unveiled patent application that reveals plans for video recording and conferencing, instant messaging, and a blogging application. The AT&T subsidy rumor (first reported by Fortune) has been persistent enough to be plausible, while the newly published patent application gives credence to (if not confirmation of) hotly anticipated features like two-way video calling.

Finally: Will we get just one new iPhone, or a series of new models (and not just different memory capacities, mind you)? And when will the new iPhone be available in stores? My feeling is that we'll get just one new model, and that it'll go on sale later this month-but that's just my gut talking.

Odds: 3G iPhone with GPS (bank on it), thinner than original (50-50), glossy backing (almost certain, although I hope not), video conferencing (3-1), AT&T subsidies (50-50), more than one model (7-1), on sale Monday (5-1).

iPhone App store, new iPhone firmware
More of a fact than a rumor-and potentially more exciting that the 3G iPhone itself. Steve Jobs teed up the App store-which will feature dozens, if not hundreds, of native iPhone applications written by third-party developers-back in March, and the possibilities are limitless.

Besides the standard communications (IM, anyone?), productivity (an office suite?), and business applications, we're also talking games-many observers think the iPhone could rival the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP as a mobile gaming device. I can't wait.

Jobs is also expected to unveil new iPhone firmware, which will include such goodies as full-on Microsoft Exchange support, enhanced IT and security features, and more, no doubt.

Odds: Already announced, so let's call this one fact.

Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"
This one came out of nowhere just a few days ago-that Apple is set to release beta code for its next major OS release, just eight months after OS X "Leopard" hit shelves. Word is that "Snow Leopard" (that's the rumored code name, anyway) will be a "stability and performance" release for Intel-based Macs, and that it's geared toward optimizing mobile devices like the MacBook Air and the iPhone-and maybe even a new, tantalizing mystery device. It might seem a little early for 10.6 (which is supposedly slated to go on sale next January), but multiple blogs are claiming that it's a done deal.

Odds: 50-50 or better.

.Mac reborn as MobileMe
Apple's much-maligned, $99-a-year online service is about to get a makeover-or so says the rumor mill. New features will include over-the-air syncing of Address Book and iCal info between Macs and iPhones, as well as a new and improved Web interface that lets you browse your contacts and events from any Web browser (sounds pretty basic, but it'll be a big step forward for .Mac users, believe me).

Odds: Almost certain.

Redesigned MacBooks and MacBook Pros
Both the consumer and pro-level versions of Apple's iconic laptop lines are due for major design overhauls. Indeed, save a few tweaks here and there, today's MacBooks and MacBook Pros look pretty much like yesterday's iBooks and PowerBooks. But what little chatter there's been about redesigned MacBooks at WWDC has more or less died out in the past several days. I'm not feeling it.

Chicago-based rapper/actor Common is spearheading a new effort to encourage youth to read.

The entertainer, who will soon be seen alongside Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman in the movie Wanted, is using his Common Ground Foundation to launch The Corner, a national online book club designed to develop critical thinking skills among participants while giving them a chance to discuss current reading selections.

The club, which is open to students age 13-18, will feature a list of recommended books that promote messages of tolerance, compassion and nonviolent expressions of achieving social justice.

In addition to reading The Corner’s book of the month, members can blog with each other about relevant topics and have a chance to participate in a live online chat with Common Ground Foundation staff.

The Corner will also feature interviews each month with celebrity artists who will talk about their favorite books and why reading is so important to them.

Book club members can participate in a national the Common Ground Challenge sponsored by the Foundation.

Winners will have their essay posted on the Common Ground Foundation website as well as a chance to meet Common.

The Corner’s launch comes amid news of Common being selected for the American Library Association (ALA) READ Campaign poster and National Young Adult Library Services Association ("YALSA") Teen Read Week initiative.
